Just started reading this book by none other than Stroustrup, the father of C++. The limitation is that it can sometimes choke on more complex C++ code and it is not compatible with some of the features provided by the new versions of the C++ standard (such as C++11 trailing return functions or advanced templated argument types) . Like its predecessors, the fourth edition uses clear, straightforward examples to teach both the syntax of the C++ language and sound programming principles. It is not In principle, there could be a new entry for each expended tokens, but consecutive entries are merged. QMetaMethod::tag allows the programmer to leave any tag for some extension in front of a method. Programming — Principles and Practice Using C++ is the new book by Bjarne Stroustrup, the daddy of C++. *An Introduction to Programming by the Inventor of C++. Seems like this is a very practical book. Another good c++ book(which I haven't read, assuming it's good because of the author) is Programming:Principles and Practice Using c++, it's written by Bjarne Stroustrup(the creator of c++). Many of the same principles can apply in Java or C#, but we'll start here, and we'll start with immutable value types. Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++; Addison-Wesley Professional; 1 edition (December 29, 2008); The C++ Programming Language by Bjarne Stroustrup; Addison-Wesley Pub Co; 3rd edition (February 15, 2000). After that, I´d probably go with Programming -- Principles and Practice Using C++ and by all means The C++ Standard Library - A Tutorial and Reference. Programming: Principles and Practice using C++. Given the slightest opportunity I can ramble on about the advantages of immutable value types and side-effect free functions. Unlike his previous books this is very readable, even if you have very little experience of programming. (how do you pronounce his name?!). But I find that too many introductions to FP focus on considered amongst the least functional languages. The guys who work with me know all too well that I have a bit of a thing for functional programming.
